Trans-Am, East to West, May through August, no route yet
My name is Christopher Patino, I'm 20 years old, and this summer I'm biking to San Diego from Myrtle Beach, SC. I go to Appalachian State University in Boone NC. I get out of school May 10th, but I'm going on a beach retreat with my campus ministry until the 14th. What I'd like to do is leave from that beach and do the whole ceremonial "dipping of the tires" in the Atlantic, and bike back to Black Mountain/Asheville NC where I live, then on to San Diego. The only thing holding me back from making this trip 100% possible is a riding partner. Let me know if you're interested in going. Here's how I've planned to go across the country...
biking 70-100 miles/day
stealth camping, mini-stove cooking
using warmshowers.org and couchsurfing.com for some hospitality and meeting cool new people
i haven't made a route, because i don't have a partner. once there are 2 or more of us, we'll make the route together
get a train back to charlotte before fall semester (Aug. 23?)

Everything is up for changing, so please don't let some of this hold you back from getting in touch with me!

I'm sorry for not keeping up
I'm sorry for not keeping up with my own post, but here goes:
As of now, I have 5 (possibly 6) other people joining me for parts of the trip. Not all at once, though.
That being said, a general route has been made up to meet up with these people. And, I think for the middle leg of my journey, we're kinda full. But if you want to join up from the SC coast to alabama, or on until IL/MO, I'd love more company. I only have 1 possible person joining me for a bit across NC, so see what you can do.
B-B-BLOG!!!
I just created the blog that I'll be updating as my trip approaches and then progresses. Check it out here:
