US trip - help
Hello, I'm a 18 year old male who is going to bike from Seattle to New York with a friend (y20 male) from Wednesday (June 30) to around 25 of Juli…
I have already contacted two in Seattle, so lets hope they'll answer, even with this short notice. My friend and I will need as much accommodation in North America as possible, we're on a tight budget as students :-P Anyhow, we plan to do 200 kilometres a day (125 miles) and therefore:
We will arrive at Seattle Airport at 5 PM Tuesday, use wednesday to get rid off the worst jetlag and basically getting ready. Perhaps do 50 km wednesday, as a prologue, not planned yet. Thursday we will start out with our first 200 km.
So Thursday (1 of Juli) at noon we will be around:
Sunnyslope, Waterville, Entiat, Wenatchee or so. I have written to Derek and Carmen of Wenatchee (Veloman44), so I'll hope they'll answer, if not, can anyone recommend some nice motels in that area?
Next stage will be friday (2 of Juli), with 200 kilometres again. If anyone in Spokane would like to host us, we would be more than appreciated!
Saturday is from Spokane to approx. Missoula, if anyone wants to host us Saturday in Missoula it would be awesome, we will arrive at afternoon and depart the following morning (as with all stages, except arrival 29 in Seattle, which will be 2 days if possible :))
On sunday (4 of Juli) we will be entering Montana almost, perhaps around Helena or so.
Monday (5 of Juli) we will ride from Helena to Lewistown, Hobston or so. Feel free to recommend motels, as it doesn't seems like there are any WS members there.
From beyond the first weeks time, it's impossible to ask of hospitality of you as possible hosts, as we simply do not know where the roads will take us, if anyone can recommend a nice route, we would be very very thankful. We both have Garmin EDGE 705's with North American map, so I guess we will be fine. We also have a laptop with us, is there any internet out there in the middle of nowhere at all? (sorry :P)
Feel free to offer us hospitality on our road from Seattle to New York, we will ride north of the Michigan lake, and as straight as possible.
If you think you can help me, perhaps not with hospitality, maybe just knowledge, please do not hesitate writing either here or on my mail!
Humble regards from a humble cyclist.

Crossing America
Magnus-
You might check out www.adventurecycling.com. Their maps/routes for the northern tier of the US are great. I used them for a trip across a couple of years ago. You are VERY ambitious to take on that much mileage, especially if you wish to experience any of the great land you are crossing! You will be able to bush camp in many places-even in town parks. This will be your least expensive way to catch a night's sleep. If you are camping, often check in with the police station when you arrive in a town-they will advise on free camping.
Libraries and coffee shops are great for wi-fi. You will be crossing great distances of open prairie, where the small towns are not all up to current technology. Once you hit the great lakes, this will change and you will have much better coverage.
Have fun and enjoy the trip.
